Ares pwns them ALL!

After a very long hibernation, I've been on one bigger convention for the first time this year last weekend.
I must admit, it was not that relaxing, as I had to work on the con (I did the audio direction for an internet TV live convention report). However the whole broadcast project was a lot of fun. Besides being reamed out by the location's safety advisor... I still don't know why.

Anyway, we had a lot of fun, a nice chat with some local music/convention stars and a great and cute J-Pop singer (Yuuki from the Duo Jelly Beans) and I could enhance my knowledge with digital mixing consoles...

But... the most important part was the performance of Shinji Schneider.
Shinji is a swiss comedian, who's jokes are about conventions, and especially about quirks of German conventions.
One of his best jokes was about the organisers and the helpers of these conventions.
I try to translate it as good as possible:

"Imagine a typical dialogue between a visitor and a helper.
'Er...Excuse me...where's the gaming room?' 'Sorry, I'm just a helper.' And if you think this is made up, I can assure you as a co organiser and experienced helper...it's not!"

In his stage program for this year, he play-acted the role of Ares, "God of War", and again made fun of conventions. But at one point, I thought "Okay, he's so damn right, even if it was just a joke!"

He talked about the mindset of some cosplayers, like "There is only ONE way to cosplay: to be perfect!"
There are even cosplayers, who would like to put a ban on cosplayers who are fatter than the character they are representing, or other tiny details. I vented my spleen about this already, so I shut it up for now.

"Okay", he said, "to all chicas out there, who think that 110 lbs is the maximal aloowed weigth to cosplay. Try THIS!"
And behind him on the wall, the projector casted a picture of Ursula from Disney's "The Little Mermaid".

First, the audience laughed, but after a few seconds (at least some) they realised that he was right.

I can say that I was proud of my fiancee. She wore a costume from "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle" (the so called 'Cherry blossom artwork'), and even though the is a lot heavier than Sakura is, it looked so cute yet beautiful.

I even saw some "rounder" girls doing Sailor Moon, and even that didn't look awful!

I hope that Ares...I mean...Shinji did something to the people's mind that day, and after 45 terribly funny minutes, he even changed clothes and entered the stage in a maid costume (his mind blowing feature from last year's stage program).

All I can say is that this weekend was empowering! And if you are "fat", this is not a problem. Just have fun. Wearing the first part of my future Alexiel costume while writing this, I can say: "I have!"
