After some very intense weeks full of marriage stress and family moving to a new flat, we decided to take the offered press tickets and take a trip to Connichi at Kassel. More than 15000 vistors were announced, the location had been expanded last year, it was expected to be a magnificent event!
So we packed our stuff together (the signs were bad, as a costume we ordered via ebay didn't arrive in time, we were P*****ED) and drove one and a half our towards the greatest thing that would happen this year.
The first day was very easy. As we were primary attending the convention as journalists, we had our recording devices always with us. However, we were not cosplaying anything but our very selves.
The second day, we decided to cosplay a fictional pairing: Hokage Naruto and the grown-up Hinata. We knew it would be a touchy thing to do. I wasn't as tall as I would have to be, and my wife wasn't....well...as slim as Hinata. So this would be enough to make so-called elite cosplayers go mad.
But it was worse than assumed!
At lunch, it was okay, I was even recognized as Naruto by the assistant. But on our way to the outside area, we were forced to stop by some teenage boys. The laughed at us, saying "There has never been any prove that Naruto becomes Hokago, and Hinata doesn't look like this in ANY Episode that has been released until this very day!"
We heard something like this again a few hours later, after teaming up with one of our best friends, who cosplayed L from Death Note. I have to admit, he is one of the best Ls I have ever seen. He was tall, skinny, and had dark circles even without any make up. One may call me a coward, but even without contacts, he was THE L!
Not to some of those elites! "L is kind of slouching, YOU are NOT!"
To all (cross-) cosplayers who only do it with passion and with no deeper aim: How can I deal with those elite haters besides ignoring them? If the same thing happens again next year, I will go on rampage!

Help

I think that just ignoring it is the best way to go, but, i'm sure a sharp, short comment would do just fine. (Be level headed though! Don't start a big fight!)
I dont really see anything wrong with changing up a cosplay, if anything, it gives variation! Its all for the love of the character, so why the hell not?
Again, I feel really bad your days went so terribly, but i hope this doesn't deter you from going to future cons! D:
