Buying breast forms, and alternatives

If you are transgendered, or want something that will have the weight and feel of a real breast, then you really want an actual breastform. Breast forms come in a few types, shapes, features, etc. You are welcome to look these over to see what best suits your needs/budget. But here I will be giving my suggestions based on the experience I have had with the forms I have owned.

Two main types of forms:
(Attachable and Non-Attachable)

Personally the attachable ones are only about $10 more and they come with a free kit of adhesive strips. So if you're going bang for buck, definitely get these. The reason I say this is because not only will these keep your forms from moving around through out the day, which can create a "wandering boob" or "uniboob" look which is definitely not wanted, but it also allows you to do costumes/outfits that are backless because you do not need a bra. Now you can always get an adhesive bra to go over them for the "just in case" situations. But after extensively testing the hold of your forms on your body, you may not need that extra step. But definitely test it for a while to make sure they will stay on. This is a "your mileage will vary" thing, since someone who buys tiny forms won't have much problem, because weight to adhesion ratio will be in favor of the adhesive strips. But if a girl like my wears just the strips and no bra, I might have an issue because I wear size 7 forms and they have some good weight to them. So definitely, test it out before you go running around in a backless outfit, only to drop a boob on the dance floor.

Pros:
  • Very life like, weight, feel, size/shape are all very true to a natural breast.
  • They move when you do, if you run, they bounce. This makes you all the more believable since real breasts move, people are expecting yours to move too.
  • If someone touches you, either on purpose or accident, they feel real. So if you get a smartass trying to "make you" by offering a hug at a convention, or some other type of contact, this will certainly keep them guessing!
  • Does come with nipples, and you can add different ones to the outside of the form for a more realistic look/feel if that is needed. (Mention Crossplay.net for a free pair of these right now if you order more than $50!)
  • These do warm to your body temperature. This adds even more to the belivability of forms, since real breasts have body heat, these will as well. But on cold days, you may want to warm them up slowly with water. Because just like they heat up with your body temperature, they also drop with the cold. So first thing in the morning, don't just slap them on or you'll really be in for a wake up call. ^^;;
  • They adhere to your body with the special included strips. This helps prevent them from moving around and looking less real when you have two boobs on one side, or they strart becoming neck or waist boobs.
Cons:
  • They are more expensive than the sleep forms mentioned below. But they are well worth it if you want to pass, and pass well.
  • They can be heavier, since they are meant to look/feel/move like real breasts. The weight will take getting used to, but it is not that much of an issue unless you pick an insane size, which you shouldn't do anyway because it won't be as believable.
  • These types of forms are not rated for the water. But you can buy special ones if you plan to go swimming from the same website.
  • Can not sleep on these, it will risk harming the form. For this just get a pair of matching sleep forms to enlogate the life of your good forms.

If you are on a budget, or do not plan to get much use out of a breast form, but still want something that will give you the proper appearance of a breast, then you want what is called a "Sleep/Travel Form". These are cheap, $40 foam breasts that will fill out your outfit/costume properly like real breasts would, but for a fraction of the cost of real breast forms.

Pros:
  • These are great for those who are either on a budget, just starting out in the transgendered community, or are the occasional crossplayer that doesn't really need to spend the money for real forms.
  • They are light and easy to wear for long periods of time, or as they were intened, while sleeping or traveling.
  • They can also be used while exercizing to reduce perspiration that is usually created with real forms, but if you're on a treadmill there will be no bounce. But in private you're good!
Cons:
  • The downsides of these vs real forms for transgendered people are that the weight and feel are not there.
  • If you want that bounce when you run or walk, the foam forms will not give you that.
  • If someone hugs you, bumps you, etc., these forms will not feel real. They will feel just like foam pillows.
Personally, if you're going to be in an already uncomfortable costume for long periods of time, and aren't worried about people poking you (which random people should be touching your breasts anyway!!) then sleep forms are great for crossplay.

Making your fake chest
I made this tutorial a while ago on how to make your fake breasts rather cheap and easily.

How to make your fake boobs, by Kimberly Balduf (No putting this anywhere with out my name attached!)

Anyway, on to the false boobies! I recently made myself some good ones and they're dirt cheap too! I had read a long time ago about rice, bird seed, etc etc. But I was embarrassed and didn't want to try that, so I kept using winter socks. But somewhat recently I was brave enough to give this a shot once I seen how nice they could look.

I'll do this recipe style! Here's your ingredients!
1 bag of short grain rice (Ideal, but if you cant find it long grain will do)
1 package helium quality ROUND balloons, WHITE.
1 set of funnels

I got all of that in one trip to Walmart. The rice was about 1.30, the balloons about 70 cents, and the funnels were another dollar something. So all and all this will cost 3-4 dollars depending on price, and you can make two sets of boobs! A pair of Cs and a pair of Ds!

Instructions:
Ok, now that you have all this together here's what you do. Blow up two of the white balloons to stretch them out. Next, place one of them over the funnel's spout. Make sure to get the funnel that best seals around your mouth. Why you need this seal will be explained in a bit. Anyway, you do not need to tape the balloon to the funnel, you need somewhere to hold, and this is the best spot. Now comes the filling!

When I was making these, the original instructions were put the rice in a ziplock back, roll it up and stick it in a sock. Didn't seem very well made that way, lots of extra stuff in there to mess with the shape, not to mention poke into your chest over the course of a day. Sure it feels fine when you first put it on, but think about a WHOLE day wearing them, ouch. So I decided that placing the rice into a balloon was the best way to do it, in effect making my own stress balls. Rather large ones though. So the problem was how to get the rice into the balloons. You certainly can't stuff it in there with your finger, I tried that. So I needed to inflate the balloon somehow. Well blowing air into it then getting the rice in wasn't going to work, and the only other way was creating a vacuum outside the balloon. Yeah, I know that's overkill.. you don't need to buy anything like that. In case someone doesn't know what machine I'm talking about, it's the kind flower shops use to put bears into the balloons.

But, before you put the rice into the balloons you need to know how much equals what cup size! The friend who told me about the zippy bag method gave me a rough estimate on cups of rice versus cup size. Two cups of rice equals a C cup. And to get the larger anime chests that some of the girls have, for my second set, I used the rest of the bag. I think it was around 3.5 cups to 4 for each breast. I don't know about anything lower than that.. I would guess at 1.5 being a B, and A probably a cup or less. But for those you can probably get away with socks.

Here's the secret on how put the rice in! With the funnel inserted into the balloon, measure out your first cup of rice, and pour a little of that into the funnel. You'll have to test the amount to see what fits your face and funnel best, but it's a no brainer. Once you have this fixed, seal the funnel around your mouth, and gently blow the rice through it and into the balloon. This may take a bit of wiggling to get it through the end because it can get a little jammed, but nothing serious has ever happened to me. Once you have all or most of the rice into the balloon, it's time to let the excess air back out. WARNING! Let it pass the seal SLOWLY! Otherwise you'll have rice shooting all over the place, on your floor, up your nose, down your throat.. it's not fun. Repeat this until your allotted amount cups of rice. Then, simply tie it off and voila! You have boobs!

Bra Tips For Your New Boobs!
I recommend a demi bra. If you don't know what this is, go to a bra site and look one up. I don't know a lot about bras yet, but these have the better cup shapes because they have the entire breast area covered, so they make the nice tear drop shape we who lack boobs need. Just don't over fill that bra and you'll be fine.

Anyway, like I said at the top of this message.. I devised this whole process, so please put my name on any repostings of this. A link to my site would be great too!

I hope that helps some people! If you have any questions on other types of forms or methods to make cheap forms please post them in here. I will edit and update this post with new information as it is created!

Just a note...  if you want to get breast forms and you think you're likely to take hormones, it might be a good idea to get forms a size or two smaller than you might otherwise want.  Once the real thing starts growing, the forms will otherwise probably look too big.  And also, the smaller forms will help get you used to what you might actually look like (since they'll likely end up a little smaller than a cisgirl's).

But if you are just strictly cosplaying, feel free to get the extra-huge forms.  You can be as big as an anime girl.  :)

I use the Gold Seal Premium Attachable Breast Forms.

I like to just use a bra usually, but attaching is an option...

I only crossdress sometimes right now though... ^~^

(I use the Size 4, Cup Size C)

Hey I'm cross-playing for halloween this year, (a girl at work persuaded me to do it) and I find that the silicone breast forms are way too expensive, and since I only plan on doing this once, I'm thinking of using the foam breast forms or sleep forms, and maybe putting them in a water bra, would that give me close to the natural jiggle that the silicone breast forms would give me?

Nope, not at all. The jiggle is from the weight of the breasts and a bit due to the material they are made from. You might be able to weight the sleep forms with say, fishing weights. Just bore a hole in a safe spot and sink a few in till the weight is right. That'd be a super cheap way of making weighted forms. =3 The water bra would only help if someone were to grab you. It wouldn't make you feel real, it'd just make you feel like a water bra wearing person and less like a foam boobie wearing person.

okay then, I also read how to make your own breasts with balloons and rice, it sounds like that may give me the weight that I will probably need for the breasts, is there any pros or cons to making them that way? and you suggested a demi bra for those breasts, what is the benefit to using a demi bra design?

The pros of using my rice/seed boobs in balloons idea is that it's cheap to make and renewable. (Biodegradable if you care about that sorta thing). It takes a little practice at first to get the rice down the funnel and into the balloon so do it where a mess is easy to clean up.

The cons are that white rice in a balloon is easily mistaken for a balloon of cocaine. I had my rice boobs knifed open on me when I flew to a convention to run their cosplay. Needless to say I had to rush to the store and find suitable replacement ingredients and make them again last minute. Strangely on the way back they were not knifed. So take your chances there... or keep the ingredients separate lol.

More cons could be the balloon could burst and shower your feet in rice. If that happens and people look at you, just say "What? My feet are consenting adults, they can get married if they want to and I for one will throw rice at them and celebrate if I want to."

Personally, since I've tried it all, I say just get foam sleep forms for a bit more. They last a TON longer are already the right shape and size, and you don't have to worry about them breaking or being knifed by airport security. I haven't tried to add weights to them, but I'm sure it'll work if you get the right amount of weights in the right area (probably toward the bottom/front). I wouldn't use rice boobs now at all, too many unforeseeable issues with them. Oh and they also are misshapen a lot of the time, so you'll find yourself squishing your boobs into shape unless you get a bra with fully shaped cups and hope it all works. This is usually a padded bra (not gel/water).

If any one is interested I still have 2 sets of silicone breast forms for sale $50 each.  I don't have a need for them any more.

Hi, I'm more looking for opinions right now on what would be best for my situation.
I'm wondering whether or not it will be worth it to get the gold seal attachable breast forms?
Currently I'm using multiple breast enhancers which I found at walmart to create cleavage, but I have a couple of crossplays where either the dress is strapless, or the top of the cleavage is shown over the shirt, which looks a little awkward, even though I am using a bra that has invisible straps.
My concern is I am a full time student with a part time job, but I do find myself with some funds that I could spend on this, but considering that I would only use them for crossplay, is it worth upgrading my cleavage.
Also my other dilemma is what size should I get. Currently the characters I tend to crossplay frequently are, CC from code geass, Luka from the vocaloid programs, and I do plan on crossplaying mikuru from melancholy of haruhi suzumiya once I find a good wig for that. I'm probally looking somewhere between a B to DD, but I'm not sure what would be best.

Well the first thing I'll say is attachable breast forms won't let you wear low cut garments, oh how I wish that were true. So if like you said the top of the cleavage needs to show you might have an issue depending on how much it peeking out. If minimal you can scootch the forms around to where they don't show and try to tape yourself up some cleavage with 3M medical tape. But if you're on a budget, the sleep forms have the right shape/size just not the weight. So that might be the best/cost effective way to go.

However if you want to think of the attachable forms as a future investment then I highly recommend good forms. It just depends on how much usage you'll get out of them. For me it's pretty darn often, but if you're only using them for occasional crossplay and your money is better spent elsewhere, just go with sleep forms since they're much cheaper.

As far as size, you don't have to have a set for each character you do. Aim for a size that looks good on your body. Passing as a girl means making yourself believable as a girl. Not matching the bust size of every single character you want to do. The real girls who cosplay don't have magical expanding/contracting boobs that fit each character you do. So just aim for a normal appearance, but that's my two cents on that. If you want to go all out and have one of every size for every possible character, go for it.

Just found these and thought i would pass the info along.

Its a set of Breastforms that blend in with your skin, the price is a little bit in orbit but if the photos are to be believed then they are an amazing product.

It's worth noting that some 'specialist sites' will sell breast forms that are exactly the same as the ones you can pick up on ebay but add an extra 0 to the price - just because they are from a 'specialist store'.

Best look about... they are usually all come from the same factory in the far east anyway.

Also not, extra large forms will always have a shape quality issue as the size and weight will often make them set unevenly so if you want the enormous "in your face" forms, remember to get a good firm bra too.

Also becareful of the dimensions. I have had a couple of larger forms which did not have the right size base and while are great fun, do not look particularly realistic. The bigger they stick out, the bigger the base should be.

TheBreastFormStore.com is where I bought my current pair. They also advertised with us for a while last year. I know the owner and they're pretty nice. As for tacking on that extra 0... well I think my size D/DD attachable forms were $160.00... so if you can get them on eBay for $16.00 I'd be very concerned it's a scam, or I'd get something really shitty and not like the picture at all. Mine are fairly large (not comically large mind you) and are realistic in feel/shape/etc.

So in my opinion TheBreastFormStore.com is a good company, they don't charge that extra 0, the merchandise is good, etc etc. If I was unhappy with them, I'd so not be endorsing at all.

As far as those realistic breasts go, really dunno how well they work (in general, not just from TBFS) and I don't really want to shell out $750 to see. Also, using that extra 0 thing again, if you see these for $75 it's something to be cautious of. But for something that expensive, shop around, definitely. Also check on return policies, I'd assume since this attaches to you and is a 'personal' item, you may not be able to exchange it except for product defect (that you can prove) and even then the company may not be a good one, and not accept them back at all.

From what I have heard from a lot of Crossdressers on various sites is that the cheaper forms sometimes have adhesives that can cause all kinds of rash's or allergic reactions, not to say that they all do, just that some of them do so the old saying of "Caveat Emptor" applies.
(at the very least use a quality/trusted brand of adhesive)

I really wish I could say I had the money to try all kinds of neat things like this out, but like most people anymore, money is a bit tight.  :(
(Especially at $750)

(Hey who knows, maybe they would let someone like Kimberly test & review a pair of them[never know])

Hopefully the price will drop as they get more popular, but at that price I doubt many will buy them....

If you find any other forms that can be worn nude or with a bikini like these claim to be (and can take some makeup to make them look flawless/100% real) for less $$$, please let me know/post a link.

im tempted on those RealBreasts, they are made by the same people who make the RealDoll (a realistic sex doll) and im betting they just used the same silicone and molds from the doll. But still i haven't seen any real pictures from them other than whats on the sight

The general opinion I have heard is that the RealBreasts are fantastic for realism, but are very time consuming to put on and take off. To the point that they would be wonderful for revealing situations (like many cosplays. >_<), as they can be blended with makeup to appear very realistic, but for most other circumstances, they are more trouble than they are worth.

I had thought that I found the 'Make your own silicone forms' post here, but apparently I found it on cosplay.com

Anyways, I was thinking of trying out the seemingly difficult method as the materials seem easy enough to get while my paypal is down and if done right there's a small chance it might be cheaper than actually buying a set of forms online with shipping and taxes etc.

Just thought it'd be helpful to add a link to it here, 'case someone wanted to try something a bit different.

Ordering the $750 Realbreast forms.

Ok guys so the High dollar forms are gonna be mine soon.  I'm going in for it and I'll post as much about them as I can.  So far I have the color matching kit ordered and I'm really hoping that I can get it do the test and turn it around for the full order before I have to go out on a job.  I'm burning a weak of my beloved off time but Hey.  I plan on getting a bikini and tops to go with the forms.  It the mean time I'm going to be learning as much as I can about glueing as I can.  I have Holister medical adhesive on order.  and a cheap pair of forms I can afford to mess up.

It looks like the Realbreast's come form some one other then TBFS  (thebreastformstore)  but TBFS doesn't mark up and the seem to have a lot of good things so I'm ordering threw them.  Has anyone else bought them?  Does anyone have pictures/practice at concealing the edge.  or using forms to make visible cleavage?

Just some heads up I've been closeted for a long time.  I joined the army and now I work in the oil field.  But I want to be female at least part time.  So I'm embracing my self.  I'm constantly at odds with my two sides.  But I think I could be a women all the time if I could make the $ I do and be openly Transgender.  Right now that's not an option.  The coworkers are less then understanding.  Fortunately it's not a problem because I don't live in the same state I work.  Hell, there arn't any rich; Gen-girls, post ops, or Shemales that want to be my suger-mama is there?  xD

But I'm dieing to be able to wear things that show my girl chest.  I don't really feel all girl when I'm wearing a crap load of layers jsut to hide things.  and I think that if  CAN show skin like a girl can.  Then No One will really think I'm not a girl.

Now if I can jsut stop biting my finger nails.

When it came time for me to buy my breast forms, I opened a P.O. Box for myself briefly. Sure that seems a little crazy but i found it completely worth the money. I knew if when the box came in the mail, my parents would start being nosy about whatever came for me. But the point is that I used Amazon and bought a decently priced pair for about $60. I use medical adhesive to bring my breast tissue together (some people use duct tape, OUCH) then put on one of my bras on to place my forms in the bottom part to give the correct look and feel. I would of have had loved to get ones that were the correct color of my skin as well as a little bigger (I wear a 34C) but i was attempted to look natural and not fake. (still would of gone to be a 38D at max.)

You know I don't have the high end chest yet, but I'm rally happy with the cheap ones I have.  Ok so this is kind of funny but.  I like I wear them with some medical glues. And they even stay on in the shower.  But it's day 3 strait right and I realized I need to wear a bar even at night or they pull and move alot.  ^.^  I don't care what anyone else thinks.  That makes me feel like a women and that made me really happy.

*six months to HRT  I told my mom I'd put up in a sperm bank if she helped pay.  I'll have to wear boy cloths for a bit so I don't cook the little swimmers.  But my jeans looks so cute QQ.*
