Hello,

I'm looking for advice on a bit of a shoe problem I'm having. For one of my new crossplay outfits, I bought a pair of shoes that are very cute. Although I like the style a lot, they're very tall platforms. You can see them here:

I'm somewhere between 5'8" and 5'9", which I usually feel isn't too tall for me to feel good about my height when I'm crossplaying. The problem is that when I'm wearing those boots, I'm about 6'2"-6'3", and tower over every girl at the con and most of the men. I really don't like being that tall in my crossplays, and it makes me feel very un-cute. As you can see from the picture, the platforms extend straight down below the foot area with no gaps. What I'm interested in doing is finding someone who could cut down into the platform area, and extend the part my foot sits in to about an inch or less above the ground. Is this possible? Has anyone ever had something like this done? Does anyone know where I could find someone who might be able to do this for me?

I don't know about extending the toe box, but you could probably do the job with a jigsaw and then use sandpaper to sand the platform down evenly to the size you want. I have done something like this on a much cheaper pair of shoes, and would want to look at those more closely to make sure they did not have any support structure in the platforms, but it should be easy.

Are the platforms hard or soft? It looks like it could be hard plastic or softer rubber. Hard plastic would be easier.

I'm not looking to get rid of the platform part, though. What I'd like to do is keep the platform part, but have my feet sit near the bottom of the platforms so that from the outside they actually make me look shorter. I'm imagining that that would involve hollowing out the rubber platform bottom, and then somehow extending the place my foot sits in them down into it or something.

There are two ways I can see that working. One is from the top, with a dremel or something, in which you would first take out the sole, and then cut into the rubber to the point you want. What I would probably do is cut out the rubber around the inside, so you would essentially have a ring of rubber, and your foot would go all the way through. You can then cut the excess off of the sole (which has now been removed from the shoe, so you have the boot with a ring of rubber and the center of the platform cut out) to the point that you want.

Then you would fix the rubber back in the shoe and attach it with tons and tons of high strength adhesive.

Thanks for the suggestions! The buckles do undo somewhat, and luckily my legs are rather thin anyway so I'm pretty sure the tops of the boots could make it up a few more inches without much trouble. The one problem is that obviously for good crossplay, I want my legs to seem longer, rather than shorter. I guess I might try combining your earlier idea with one of your other ideas. I could cut off a few inches from the bottom, then lower the bottom of the inside down a few inches to make myself seem shorter without making my legs seem a lot shorter.
